![]() Paessler BlogGetting quick wins in medical IT with DICOM and HL7In healthcare facilities, IT teams are increasingly being tasked with expanding their monitoring beyond the usual network components – routers, switches, firewalls, and so on – to incorporate healthcare devices and systems. There are many challenges to this, and so for those teams just getting started, it’s all about the quick wins. Steve Guthman, who has been working in medical IT for several decades, has some advice on where to start. Listen to the full podcast episode to hear Steve talk about leveraging DICOM and HL7 to monitor medical IT (or read on below for some key insights). PRTG monitoring the Industrial Automation DataCenter from SiemensHyper-converged IT infrastructure with IADC The Industrial Automation DataCenter (IADC) is an individually configured data center for on-site use in manufacturing. The system meets the special requirements in the production area and includes all the important core components of a data center, such as high-performance computing, IT/OT networks, back-up & disaster recovery, process data archiving, uninterruptible power supply and IEC 62443 compliant security architecture. The holistic approach also offers consulting, configuration, and the appropriate support services over the entire lifecycle. Lytn and PRTG: A crystal ball for your SD-WANWouldn’t it be cool if you could predict the future? You could pick winning lottery numbers every week. You’d never get caught in traffic again. You could avoid being stuck next to “that guy” on an eight-hour flight. Unfortunately, clairvoyance is not an easy thing to master and when it comes to managing your network, casting the runes, scrying or even rummaging around in chicken entrails by the light of a full moon is unlikely to help. Get alarms from network components in your supervisory and control systemIn OPC UA-based industrial environments, alarms are an important part of industrial processes - and particularly industrial supervisory and control systems (such as SCADA systems or DCS). OPC UA alarms indicate when there are problems in the OT environment, and OT teams use them to plan and organize their work. However, alarms in supervisory and control systems generally focus on OT equipment and industrial processes. But what about the supporting network components that don’t use OPC UA to communicate? All data centers at a glanceAs one of the leading data center operators in the Netherlands, All IT Rooms plans, builds, and operates data centers for customers of all industries. Unlocking complete network visibility with Paessler PRTG and UVnetworksOver the last five years, we at Paessler AG have conducted numerous different training events across the globe, ranging from generic Paessler PRTG training to custom ones that are highly relevant to our partners and customers. Here are the details about the latest PRTG release!Paessler PRTG 23.2.83 is now available in the stable release channel! This version comes with an update for OpenSSL to version 1.1.1, an update for our reporter engine to Chromium version 89, a new Python distribution version (3.9.13), security improvements and an update for German and Spanish language files. Announcing Paessler PRTG OPC UA ServerOPC UA has become the de facto standard in industrial environments. With its wide adoption, we’ve seen an increase in devices and systems that support it. This is why we included OPC UA sensors in Paessler PRTG monitoring software. And now we’ve gone a step further with OPC UA: Paessler PRTG OPC UA Server, the first product extension for PRTG. PRTG OPC UA Server is designed to help OT teams get monitoring data from network components and the IIoT into their supervisory and control systems. And PRTG OPC UA Server is available as you read this! Read on below to find out what it does and how it works. Connectivity, bandwidth, content filtering: monitoring school infrastructureWe generally don’t think about chartered schools in terms of IT. We think of them as places of learning, and if we imagine any processes, we probably picture the ones focused on organizing teaching staff or streamlining lesson schedules. However, digitalization has placed a lot of technical requirements on schools. One example is that schools must be connected to the internet to facilitate online testing; another is the fact that each student brings devices that have to connect to the school’s network. This digitalization brings about unique challenges for schools. To learn more these, and the role that infrastructure monitoring can play, I was recently joined on The Monitoring Experts by Jeremy Cioara and Erik Pope of Veeya, who provide technology services for chartered schools. Using CowManager’s tools, farmers can monitor the cows on their farm 24/7. With real-time information on fertility, health, nutrition and location, farmers know exactly which cows need attention and when. This data helps them to work more efficiently and also helps to avoid unnecessary medical costs. This in turn improves the overall health and milk production of cows. Plus, the CowManager system also helps to focus labor needed on a farm. In case you prefer PDFs instead of blogs, we have just the thing for you. Founded over 90 years ago by Reverend Bob Hammond, HammondCare is passionate about improving the quality of life for people in need. “Since implementing Paessler PRTG, HammondCare has experienced a reduction in IT team callouts of around 75 percent.” Kasun Haputhanthri, Infrastructure and Cloud Manager at HammondCare What's next for Paessler PRTG in 2023I hope everyone had a good start to 2023! As the first months lay behind us, there are a few things we want to follow up on. Reducing MTTR and downtime in a manufacturing environment with PRTG and SIGNL4IT and production are becoming increasingly interconnected. This creates more complexity – both in terms of infrastructure itself and the roles of teams. Monitoring is the first step in obtaining (and maintaining) an overview. However, accurate notification and alerting is also required for the various teams to be able to quickly respond to errors and interruptions in accordance with their respective (and often complex) roles and responsibilities. This is where a combination of Paessler PRTG monitoring software and alerting and notification functionality from SIGNL4 comes into play. The Multi-Platform Probe and the state of its developmentOver a year has passed since we introduced the Multi-Platform Probe, which can be installed on Windows and Linux systems as well as on ARM-based devices and Docker. This allows you to extend the native monitoring functionality of PRTG to other platforms. It is even possible to run a PRTG probe on some NAS systems or a Raspberry PI. Depending on the use case, this opens up completely new and cost-effective ways to reach all parts of a network. Monitor 3 key aspects of warehouse automation with Paessler PRTGWarehouse automation has become an integral part of modern warehouses, just as it has done in manufacturing. From automatic placement by robots, through to automated retrieval of items, warehouses are becoming more digitized and autonomous than ever before. Of course, ensuring that automated processes are running has become critical to the success of logistics operations. And like with other areas, getting all the data about your infrastructure in one place is critical. Let’s take a look at some key aspects of automation that Paessler PRTG can bring into your monitoring overview. |
